Jake supports Nick Fisher, David Shepherd and Christopher James in the day-to-day running of investment portfolios on behalf of private clients, trusts, companies and charities. He joined Rathbones in 2018 having graduated with an MSc in Economics and a BSc (Hons) in Economics with Spanish from the University of Kent.

Jake is a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) having completed the Investment Advice Diploma and Chartered Wealth Manager qualifications.

Jake joined Rathbone Investment Management International (Jersey) in November 2016 as part of the Rathbone Graduate Programme. Jake assisted with the management of portfolios for individuals, trusts, companies and charities and has experience working with offshore investment mandates. Jake moved to Rathbones in London in June 2018 and works alongside Jane Sydenham and Nehal Desai.

Jake graduated from the University of Kent with a Distinction in an MSc in Finance and Management and a 2:1 Honours degree in International Business. He is part way through his CFA and is qualified as an Associate for the Chartered Securities and Investments (CISI) after completing the Investment Advice Diploma.

Jake is a DFM Specialist at Rathbones, responsible for IFA relationships in London. He joined Rathbones in February 2020, having spent the previous 3 years as Senior BDM at Brooks Macdonald. Jake brings 15 years’ sales experience, having also worked as London BDM at Premier Miton for 10 years  and national BDM at Coram Asset Management for a further 2 years.

James joined Rathbones in November 2023 following his previous role as Co-head of Investments at CCLA Investment Management, where he was responsible for the management of their multi-asset and global equity funds. James has also worked at Santander Asset Management and Moore UK Chartered Accountants, and during his career has managed investment portfolios for a wide variety of charities and other not-for-profit organisations, as well as institutions and retail investors.

James has a BA in History from Leicester University is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI (FCSI) and holds a Certificate in Business Accounting.

James is an investment director in the London office and is responsible for managing investments for private clients, including their pensions, companies and charities. James also sits on the Investment Committee with responsibility for selecting North American collective investments.

Prior to joining Rathbones in 1997, and after graduating, James worked in financial public relations with ABS Communications.

James is a Chartered Financial Planner, Fellow of the Personal Finance Society (PFS) and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).  James recently joined Rathbones Financial Planning and has over 20 years’ experience of helping people grow, protect and enjoy their wealth, sometimes over several generations. 

James has worked for a number of Investment Management Firms, most recently Killik & Co., where he mentored and developed new planners alongside managing his own advice team.  He has also enjoyed more technical roles at Coutts, supporting advisors to provide complex at retirement advice to wealthy individuals and families.

He focused upon absolute return mandates and managed the Targeted Return Common Investment Fund, one of the fastest growing charity funds in recent years. James previously worked at Deutsche Asset Management, Lazard Brothers and Teather & Greenwood, all in charity investment roles. From 1988 to 1994 he served in the British Army.

James has an MA (First Class) in Modern History from Oxford University, has written numerous articles on absolute return in the charity press and is a regular speaker at charity events and investment conferences.

James achieved a BA Hons in History/Art History and a master's degree in Business Studies & New Business Enterprise, both at Oxford Brooks University.  

James joined Rathbones in 2007 from Citigroup Smith Barney Wealth Management where he had worked since 2004 specialising in US individuals and trusts.

James is an investment director. He manages a range of private client portfolios, pension funds, trusts and charities and also chairs the UK Collectives Research Committee.
