To celebrate the extended partnership of Rathbones Group Plc (Rathbones) with English Lacrosse until 2017, a charity match was held between Rathbones’ employees and the English Lacrosse players on 7 February in Hyde Park.
The charity match was in aid of the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, which aims to get young lives back on track by being inspired by, and learning from the experience of world class sports stars.
The Rathbones team ranged from experienced Lacrosse players, to beginners in the sport. The team put up a good fight against the English Lacrosse team, battling through a very wet and muddy Hyde Park. The final score was Rathbones 10-15 English Lacrosse.
The match was attended by a number of both past and present sports professionals involved in the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, including former Olympic swimmer, Adam Whitehead and Paralympian Giles Long.
In a ceremony after the match, incoming chief executive Philip Howell presented a £5,000 cheque to the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust.
Rathbones’ Philip Howell commented: “We are excited to be working in partnership with English Lacrosse. Rathbones’ investment will support the growth of the sport and ensure the best possible experience for players and supporters at events.”
As well as English Lacrosse and its financial awareness programme, Rathbones’ investment in young people also includes sponsorship of Lacrosse Scotland and other educational events, such as the Chalke Valley History Festival for Schools and the Education Business Awards.
